NVIDIA DLSS 5 Neural Rendering Hits NBA 2K27 Tonight on PC — Not a 2K Gameplay Patch

NVIDIA's DLSS 5 with 3D-Guided Neural Rendering goes live in NBA 2K27 on September 3 at 9:00 PM PT (midnight ET) for GeForce RTX 50 Series PCs and GeForce NOW Ultimate. Requires NVIDIA's Sep 3 Game Ready Driver — separate from 2K's Patch 1.3.

Editor’s note: This article summarizes NVIDIA’s September 3, 2026 DLSS 5 announcement for NBA 2K27. It is editorial coverage of a PC graphics driver and GPU feature — not a 2K title update, balance change, or new entry on the official NBA 2K27 patch notes page (which still lists v1.3 as of this writing). 2khq.com is unofficial and not affiliated with 2K, Take-Two Interactive, Visual Concepts, the NBA, the WNBA, or NVIDIA — and is distinct from 2K’s official NBA 2K HQ companion app.

NVIDIA is rolling out DLSS 5 with 3D-Guided Neural Rendering in NBA 2K27 tonight — a first-party GeForce feature that enhances lighting and material detail on supported hardware. Visual Concepts and 2K partnered on the integration, but the rollout is driven by NVIDIA’s September 3 Game Ready Driver, not a new 2K gameplay patch.

When it goes live

Per NVIDIA, DLSS 5 becomes available in NBA 2K27 on Wednesday, September 3, 2026 at 9:00 PM PT — that’s 12:00 AM ET on Thursday, September 4 (midnight Eastern, as the calendar rolls over).

You need both the in-game option and the new driver before the toggle appears.

What it is (and what it is not)

DLSS 5 3D-Guided Neural Rendering is an AI rendering stage that runs after the game engine draws a frame. NVIDIA says it enriches skin subsurface scattering, hair light transmission, contact shadows, and ambient occlusion while keeping the underlying geometry and likeness intact — the kind of material detail real-time budgets often simplify.

This is not:

  • A new NBA 2K27 gameplay patch (Shot Artist, Crew XP, squads fixes, and the rest remain in Patch 1.3)
  • A console feature — NVIDIA’s announcement targets PC (Steam) and GeForce NOW streaming
  • Available on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S through this rollout

If you are waiting for 2K to post new balance notes, check the official patch page separately. Tonight’s drop is a graphics stack update on NVIDIA’s side.

Supported hardware

NVIDIA lists support for:

Platform Requirement
Desktop / laptop PC GeForce RTX 50 Series GPU (desktop or laptop)
Cloud GeForce NOW Ultimate membership, streaming from NVIDIA-operated RTX 5080 rigs

NVIDIA does not list GeForce RTX 40 Series, RTX 30 Series, or earlier cards for DLSS 5 neural rendering in this announcement. Older RTX GPUs may still use other DLSS features where the game supports them, but 3D-Guided Neural Rendering as described here is RTX 50-only (plus GeForce NOW Ultimate). We are not claiming broader compatibility than NVIDIA published.

NBA 2K27 on PC is available via Steam as part of the title’s standard platform lineup; the official buy page still centers the September 4, 2026 global launch and Early Access timing — it does not document tonight’s NVIDIA graphics rollout.

How to enable it

After NVIDIA’s September 3 Game Ready Driver releases at 9:00 PM PT:

  1. Download and install the driver from GeForce.com or the NVIDIA app
  2. Launch NBA 2K27 on a supported RTX 50 system (or via GeForce NOW Ultimate)
  3. Open Video Settings and turn on DLSS Neural Rendering
  4. Configure other DLSS options (Super Resolution, Frame Generation, Reflex) as you prefer
  5. Press F9 during gameplay or replays to toggle neural rendering on the fly

NVIDIA’s post includes performance charts at 1080p, 1440p, and 4K with ray tracing and Ultra Preset when the full DLSS suite is enabled — useful context if you are tuning quality vs. frame rate, but those numbers are NVIDIA’s benchmarks, not 2K patch notes.

What Visual Concepts says

NVIDIA quotes Peter Kavic, Senior Producer at Visual Concepts, saying DLSS 3D-guided neural rendering “helped boost the visual quality of our materials and lighting” and that the studio values per-pixel control to preserve athlete likeness. That aligns with the broader DLSS 5 pitch: richer materials without reshaping scanned faces.

Again, that is a rendering partnership announcement, not confirmation of new on-court mechanics or a numbered 2K hotfix.
