NBA 2K27 Patch 1.3: First Gameplay Tune Hits Shot Artist and Calibrated, Crew XP and REP Retuned

Update 1.3 is the first Early Access title patch with on-court changes — 2K reduced Shot Artist and Calibrated Takeover effectiveness and retuned Crew XP and REP earn rates. Plus squads matchmaking, City progression, REC and Auction House hangs, Fire & Concrete co-op saves, and PC mod tool performance.

Editor’s note: This article summarizes the August 31, 2026 NBA 2K27 Patch Notes v1.3 Steam community announcement and its official patch graphic. Early Access week produced plenty of Park clips and Crew ladder grinds, but the first two title updates stayed mostly off the court. Patch 1.3 changes that. 2K’s August 31 notes are the first Early Access hotfix pass that explicitly touches gameplay tuning — specifically the two shooting Takeover abilities Shot Artist and Calibrated, plus Crew XP and REP earn rates adjusted from community feedback. Everything else in the list is stability, progression, and tooling. 2K also says a broader patch before Season 2 is still coming; treat 1.3 as a targeted pass, not the final word on Early Access balance.

When Update 1.3 ships

Per the official graphic, Update 1.3 is scheduled for release around August 31 at 2 AM PT on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. 2K did not list Nintendo Switch 2 in this announcement.

Shot Artist and Calibrated: first on-court Takeover nerf

The headline gameplay change is straightforward: 2K reduced the effectiveness of Shot Artist and Calibrated Takeover abilities. The patch notes do not publish how much weaker they are — no percentages, no tier changes, no meter math. If you built around either ability during Early Access, expect less payoff when your Takeover meter triggers; you will need in-game reps to feel the difference.

That is a different lever than unlock rules. Mike Wang’s August 24 thread documented producer-confirmed OR gates for both abilities — Mid-Range or Three-Point Shot qualifies you for either one. Patch 1.3 does not change those attribute requirements; it only dials back what the abilities do once you have them. For the wider five-discipline Takeover rebuild and meter behavior after an active ability ends, see our Aug 22 gameplay Q&A breakdown.

If you theory-crafted a sharp around Shot Artist or Calibrated because the OR gate let you path through either perimeter rating, your build still unlocks the same way — the nerf is on-court output, not builder gates.

Crew XP, REP, and progression retunes

2K states that both Crew XP and REP earn rates have been tuned based on community feedback. Again, no published multipliers or before/after tables — only that the rates changed.

For Crew players, that matters inside Crew HQ — The City’s team hub where ranked Crew Divisions, private matchmaking, and seasonal Crew XP (CXP) progression live. Our City & Crew Discord Q&A already noted the shift from win-based Crew leaderboards to Seasonal Crew XP; this patch adjusts how fast that XP (and your personal REP grind) accrues without spelling out the new curves.

REP tuning also touches the broader City loop — Season 1’s 2XREP Weekends still only apply in the six modes 2K named at launch. Patch 1.3 does not expand that list; it retunes base earn rates community-wide.

For recruitment, roster tracking, and preseason Crew rankings outside this site, the sister hub 2kcrewshq.com (covered in our 2K Crews HQ explainer) remains the dedicated Crews destination. 2khq.com covers the patch; 2kcrewshq.com covers who is recruiting.

Squads, City stats, REC, MyTEAM, MyCAREER, and PC tooling

Beyond the tuning lines, 1.3 is a stability and progression cleanup pass:

Fix What 2K says
Squads matchmaking Squads would not remain intact when backing out during matchmaking — fixed.
Fire & Concrete co-op A blocker prevented advancement in the Fire & Concrete MyCAREER story after disconnecting during a Co-Op game. Existing saves can now continue.
The City stats A rare issue where stats/progression would not properly apply after certain City games — resolved.
The REC hang A hang that could occur during REC games — fixed.
MyTEAM Auction House A hang when a Player Card had multiple Takeovers on their Shoe — fixed. This is not a generic search bug; 2K called out the multi-Takeover shoe edge case specifically.
PC mod tool Improvements including a large performance increase for the PC mod tool.
General Stability improvements across the experience.

The Fire & Concrete fix is worth flagging for anyone who stalled a co-op career run after a disconnect — 2K says you do not need a fresh save.

Developer note: a bigger patch before Season 2

2K’s developer note on the graphic acknowledges ongoing reports and thanks the community for fast, clear feedback. The key forward-looking line: the patch they will release prior to the launch of Season 2 will contain a much broader set of fixes and improvements spanning the entire game.

Read that as confirmation that 1.3 is an interim Early Access pass — not the comprehensive balance sweep some players are waiting for. Season 1 is already live; this update lands in the middle of that ladder, not as a Newsroom Courtside Report.

Patch 1.2 recap: QoL-only, no gameplay changes

Before 1.3, Patch 1.2 arrived August 28 with an explicit disclaimer at the top of the official graphic: no gameplay changes in that update — 2K said they continue monitoring games across modes and skill levels.

What 1.2 actually shipped:

  • MyTEAM: Restored the ability to search Auction House listings by Minimum and Maximum Buyouts.
  • PC: Players can now remap controls for core actions when editing Key Bindings.
  • General: Performance and stability improvements.

That makes 1.3 the inflection point: 1.2 was infrastructure and auction search QoL; 1.3 is the first title update that admits on-court Takeover tuning and progression rate changes. 1.2’s official graphic is archived on Steam if you need the primary source.

What to watch after you patch

If you run Takeover-heavy builds, re-test Park and Crew HQ reps before you commit to a respec — Shot Artist and Calibrated feel different even without published numbers. Crew officers should watch CXP pacing after the earn-rate tune; personal REP grinders should notice whether City sessions feel faster or slower per game.

And keep an eye on 2K’s Season 2 pre-launch patch promise. 1.3 fixes real blockers — squads backing out, Fire & Concrete saves, REC and shoe-Takeover Auction House hangs — but 2K is already telegraphing a wider pass still ahead.
